Honda Insight is a petrol-electric C-class sedan, ideally combining a presentable appearance, a wide level of equipment and advanced technical "stuffing". This is a car aimed at family people living in large metropolitan areas who are not indifferent to the ecological situation on the planet.

The model was first introduced back in 1999, and the first generation of the "hybrid" lasted on the conveyor until 2006, after which in 2009 the Japanese presented the second generation of the model.

The presentation of the concept version of the 3rd generation Honda Insight took place in early 2018 at the Detroit Auto Show, and a few months later in New York, the Japanese presented the production version of the model.

Unlike its predecessor, presented in the hatchback body, the novelty is made in the body of a four-door sedan, the appearance of which has much in common with the latest generations of Civic and Accord models.

Rear sofa as hospitable as possible and easily accommodates three adult riders. Also, rear riders are offered a folding center armrest, which can only be used if two passengers are accommodated.

The manufacturer uses a large number of additional noise and sound-absorbing materials, which have found their place in the engine compartment, front and rear wheel arches, as well as the bottom of the car. As a result, the car provides an order of magnitude better acoustic comfort in the cabin than its predecessor.

The movement of the new Honda Insight is provided by means of hybrid power plant i-MMDmade using a serial-parallel circuit. In its arsenal there is a one and a half liter gasoline engine operating according to the Atkinson cycle and reproducing 103 hp. with 134 Nm of peak thrust.

Unfortunately, at present the manufacturer does not announce the dynamic characteristics of the sedan, including acceleration from 0 to 100 and top speed. It is only known that in a mixed mode of movement, a hybrid installation consumes about 4.3 liters of fuel, while on the highway, fuel consumption does not exceed 3 liters per hundred.

On electric traction alone, the car is able to cover no more than 1.6 km, which by modern standards is not at all impressive and causes sincere surprise.

The 3rd generation Insight is based on a modified modular front-wheel drive bogie and boasts extensive use of high-strength steel as part of the body structure. Both suspensions of the sedan have an independent design, while the classic MacPherson struts are installed in the front, and a multi-link in the rear.

The rack and pinion steering gear is supplemented with an electric power steering, while the braking system is represented by disc mechanisms of all wheels (the front ones are additionally equipped with a ventilation function).

Safety systems of the new Honda Insight

The list of available security systems will include:

Before announcing the cost of the new Honda Insight, it is worth noting that most of the auto components will be produced in the United States. So, the assembly of the car will be organized in Indiana, and the production of batteries and a hybrid power plant - in Ohio. Such a high level of localization of production suggests that the model is unlikely to appear in markets other than the USA and Canada.

It is expected that the price of new items will be located between the cost of the soplatform Civic and the more prestigious Accord, that is in the range between 18.8 and 23.57 thousand dollars.
