Information that Volvo had problems with new models surfaced last year. Then the Danish Automobile Federation (FDM) announced the incorrect conduct of the AEB test. Previously, cars of this brand were considered the most reliable in the world and have repeatedly shown high results with a large gap from competitors. A company in Denmark reportedly conducted tests of the driver's assistant system.

So, for example, the Volvo XC60 crossover at a speed of 20 to 30 km / h managed to demolish a pedestrian dummy. This is considered the simplest exercise (test) for this system and such a modern car. Accordingly, according to the standard, any AEB system should cope with the task at this speed.

As a result, Volvo took the car that made the mistake, thereby analyzing the cause. As a result, it became clear that the fault was outdated software that did not dock with the new sensors. New modules were introduced into production in 2018, but they did not think about software. As a result, the sensors located on the windshield simply did not work. Since the modern driver assistance system has become a standard safety system for Volvo cars and is installed on all models, accordingly all models were recalled.

The Volvo list includes all models produced between November 9, 2018 and March 11, 2020. According to company representatives, there is no direct threat to the lives of passengers and car drivers, as the system reacts to pedestrians or obstacles and gives appropriate signals. The downside is that the electronics do not activate the braking system. To be precise, the mechanism works every other time, which is why the driver constantly needs to be vigilant, which means that the driver will have to press the brake pedal.

According to various sources, there have not yet been any accidents due to the driver assistance assistant. In the near future, a list of VIN numbers of cars will be formed and posted on the Rosstandart website. They plan to fix the problem by updating the software at Volvo service centers. Most likely, such flaws in security systems will lower the rating relative to the status of the safest cars in the world.
