In mid-February 2018, BMW officially presented the second generation of the stylish and modern crossover BMW X4, which received the in-plant index "G02". The world premiere of the novelty took place during the annual motor show in Genevawhere the car received a lot of flattering reviews not only from fans of the brand, but also from automobile critics, and, admittedly, they were not unfounded.

In comparison with the first generation of the X4 model, it received a corrected appearance, a more modern and high-quality interior, and also acquired improved modular engines with excellent dynamic characteristics and a high level of economy. In addition, from now on, customers are offered three options for external and internal design, each of which has received a number of unique features and branded "chips".

Exterior BMW X4

The new BMW X4 may not claim to be the most beautiful car in its class, but thanks to its swift and elegant appearance, it instantly catches the eyes of others.

"Muzzle" of the crossover it looks assertive, stylish and 100% recognizable, which is the merit of the predatory head LED-optics, the embossed hood, the muscular front bumper with a massive air intake section and, of course, the branded "nostrils".

Car feed flaunts spectacular narrow side lights, a monumental bumper and a pseudo-diffuser with exhaust "trunks" scattered around the edges.

But no matter how stylish and modern the stern and front view of the car are, the main feature of the X4 is fast and well balanced coupe-like profile, represented by a long bonnet line, a sloping roof, as well as prominent wheel arches and spectacular sidewalls, with aerodynamic "gills" located behind the front arches.

It is also worth noting that the new product is available in three exterior design options - xLine, M-Sport and M-Sport X, where the first is offered by default, and the next two are characterized by the presence of more muscular rear and front bumpers, original wheels, as well as enlarged air intakes and branded nameplates of the M-series.

The external dimensions of the 2nd generation X4 exactly correspond to the parameters of mid-size crossovers:

In comparison with its predecessor, the ground clearance has decreased by 1 mm and is now (see table) 203 mm, which allows you to effortlessly overcome "speed bumps", tram tracks and other obstacles.

Fans of advanced personalization will appreciate the choice of body colors and alloy wheel designs, consisting of 8 colors and 6 variations, respectively.

The interior of the new BMW X4

The interior design of the X4 exactly repeats that of the latest generation BMW X3, unless, of course, take into account the less free space in the second row of seats and the smaller trunk volume.

The front dashboard looks stylish, thoroughbred and attractive. Moreover, it possesses excellent ergonomics and first-class assembly, which does not raise any questions even with picky study. And since this is a premium car, the interior uses only first-class materials.

Driver's "cockpit" is represented by a plump multifunction steering wheel, as well as a modern and well-read digital instrument panel. The central part of the front panel received a 10.25 ”TV set from the iDrive infotainment and information complex, as well as an exemplary music and climate control unit.

For the front passenger and the driver is offered ideally profiled seats that provide reliable lateral support, as well as possess all the benefits of modern civilization.

Rear sofa if necessary, it accommodates three riders, although the central one will be given some discomfort by the high transmission tunnel. If two passengers are seated at the rear, they have a wide folding armrest with integrated cup holders at their disposal.

Volume luggage compartment, in comparison with its predecessor, increased by 25 liters in the stowed state and by 30 liters - with the backs of the rear sofa down. Thus, it is 525 and 1430 liters, respectively.

The excellent ergonomics of the luggage compartment deserves special attention, where the manufacturer offers a large number of places for storing various "little things", a USB connector, a 12-volt outlet and a special net for fastening various loads.

Speaking about the interior design, one cannot fail to mention the fact that the buyer has ample customization options: over 10 color options, as well as a wide selection of materials for decorative inserts on the front dashboard, door cards and the central tunnel.

On the Russian market, the 2nd generation BMW X4 is offered with one of six power units (three gasoline engines and three diesel engines), each of which is paired with an uncontested 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission and all-wheel drive xDrive technology with a multi-plate clutch that can transfer part of the rotational thrust on the front axle.

Gasoline engines are presented in the following versions:

1. The base xDrive 20i is a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine that generates 184 hp. and 290 Nm of peak rotational thrust available at 5000-6500 and 1350-4250 rpm. respectively. With it, the car accelerates to a hundred in 8.3 seconds and can reach a maximum of 215 km / h, consuming an average of about 7.8 liters of fuel per "hundred".
2. 2-liter turbocharged petrol engine with the xDrive 30i index, generating 249 hp. and peak 350 Nm of torque. This power unit guarantees acceleration from 0 to 100 in 6.3 seconds, as well as a top speed of 240 km / h. Fuel consumption in the combined cycle, despite the increased power in comparison with the base gasoline engine, fits into the same 7.8 liters per “hundred square meters”.
3. 3-liter six-cylinder engine with the xDrive M40i index, capable of squeezing a maximum of 500 Nm and 360 hp. at 1520-4800 and 5500-6500 rpm. With it, the coupe-like crossover shoots up to a hundred in 4.8 seconds, and also develops a maximum 250 km / h, on average consuming about 9.2 l / 100 km.

Diesel versions include:

1. A two-liter turbodiesel with the xDrive 20d index, producing 190 hp. and 400 Nm of torque, which allows you to overcome a hundred in 8 seconds. and reach the maximum speed mark of 213 km / h. Diesel fuel consumption is 5.4 l / 100 km in the combined driving cycle.
2. Three-liter turbodiesel with the xDrive 30d index, generating 249 hp. and 620 Nm of torque, which allows you to count on acceleration to 100 in just 5.8 seconds. and a top speed of 240 km / h. At the same time, the average consumption of diesel fuel does not exceed 5.9 l / 100 km.
3. 3-liter turbodiesel xDrive M40d, which allows to achieve a return of 326 hp. and 680 Nm of thrust. With him, the crossover spends 4.9 seconds to reach the first hundred. and can accelerate to a peak of 250 km / h, consuming an average of about 6.4 liters of diesel fuel per "hundred".

The new X4 is built on the proprietary CLAR platform, which assumes a longitudinal engine layout and extensive use of high-strength steel and aluminum. Both suspensions have an independent design and are presented: in the front - with a double lever, and in the rear - with a multi-link arrangement.

The rack and pinion steering is equipped with an electric booster, while the front ventilated and rear discs are responsible for braking.

Special attention should be paid to the M-version of the X4, additionally equipped with a self-locking rear differential, an advanced braking system, an adaptive suspension and electronically controlled shock absorbers.

Security systems of the new BMW X4

Like any modern car, the second generation BMW X4 has a whole arsenal of modern security systems, among which there are:
