The new fifth generation Nissan Micra 2017 was presented on September 29, at the auto show in Paris. The interior differs from the previously presented concept in many respects, but the exterior has almost retained its forms. Comparing with the previous generation of the Micra hatchback, the design has completely changed and there is nothing like the round shape of the small car. Exterior and interior features have become austere and much more attractive than the previous design.

The Nissan Micra hatchback has always stood out for its unusual design, with round shapes, but the new generation has completely changed the idea of this model. For the first time, a concept with similar shapes was introduced as the Nissan Sway, but now it is the fifth generation of the Micra 2017.
Compared to the previous generation, the front end of the new Nissan Micra has been completely redesigned. In the previous model, the optics were round in shape with a small radiator grille. In the new Nissan Micra, the front optics are modern, stretching from the center grille to the side fenders. In the part closer to the radiator grill in the optics there are daytime running lights. Instead of two separate grilles, the designers made one large one, with a horizontal black bar in the middle. In the very center, there is a V-shaped chrome insert with the Nissan logo.
The front bumper was decided to be large and solid, as in the previous generation Nissan Micra. On the sides of the lower part of the bumper, starting from the basic configuration, foglights were placed. On the left and right, the designers made protruding forms in the form of fangs, designed to improve the hatchback's aerodynamics, and for beauty.
The Micra hood has become austere and repeats the features of the radiator grill, or rather its V-shaped insert. At the same time, it becomes clear from the hood that the unit will not be as powerful as expected from the concept.
The side part of the Nissan Micra 2017 also underwent a complete restyling, from the wheels to the side mirrors. The front fenders have become more convex, with a strict show jumping of the wheel arches. The wavy line from the hood is transmitted along the entire side section and to the rear optics. In the previous generation Nissan Micra, there was only one simple semicircular line.
The front doors have completely changed their shape. The side rear-view mirrors were moved from the glass to the door itself, and in its original place an additional glass appeared, with a partition from the main one, although many say that it would be better to make a solid one, and cheaper and prettier. In some cases, this partition, on the passenger side, can interfere with normal inspection in the side mirror.
The lower part of the doors is emphasized by a wavy, dented line, adds attractiveness to the design and thereby replaces moldings or plastic trims. The door handle on the front door remains the same, but on the rear door it migrated to the C-pillar, and is well disguised as a plastic insert in the corner of the glass.
The rear fenders of the Nissan Micra, like the front ones, are convex in shape, but half the size. The rear wheel arches take up almost the entire length of the wing, a direct hint that the trunk of the new hatchback will be small. Some experts say the front and side are similar to the Kia Cee’d and partly true.
The rear of the new Nissan Micra 2017 turned out to be very nice, and at the same time not a drop, not retaining the features of the previous generation of Micra. A wide rear window with a wiper at the bottom center allows for easy inspection. At the very top, the engineers installed a spoiler, and a radio antenna above it on the roof.
The tailgate is small and wraps around the rear optics. In the center is the company logo, and below it is a button to open the trunk. Like the trunk, the door is small, there is not much space to put the overall load. The rear optics have completely changed, extended to the middle and bifurcated from the side.
The rear bumper takes up almost half of the entire part, in its lower part, the designers made a small recess, and at the very bottom, in the center, they installed a fog lamp. Not immediately understand, but when you look closely, you can see that the features are very similar to the third generation Ford Focus hatchback.
The dimensions of the new Nissan Micra 2017 are larger than the previous generation:
- length 3995 mm. (170 mm larger than the previous one);
- width 1742 mm. (77 mm. more);
- height 1452 mm. (69 mm more);
- wheelbase 2525 mm. (75 mm more);
- ground clearance 145 mm.
What will be the body colors, the manufacturer has not yet named. It is reliably known that these will be:
- White;
- silver;
- dark grey;
- Red;
- Orange;
- light green;
- blue;
- Brown.
One thing can be said, the manufacturer will not limit itself to this and will offer exclusive shades, on average, up to 10 color options are planned, including a two-tone body color.
As a conclusion about the appearance of the new generation Nissan Micra 2017, we can say that it turned out ten times better than in the previous generation. Austere shapes and attractive design will do their part for buyers and the popularity of the hatchback. All this happiness will be installed on 17 ″ wheels. How large the luggage compartment is, the manufacturer is still keeping secret.
The inner world of Micra 2017
The interior of the new Nissan Micra, like the exterior, has undergone a complete redesign. Still, some of the interior details remained the same, not as changed as the exterior. The central panel changed its shape, dividing into an upper and a lower part. The upper part will be covered with black leather, the middle part of the customer's choice can be cream, brown, orange or black. This is not a complete list of colors, but the most common ones. In the center of the front panel there is a 7 "color touchscreen display for the multimedia system. In terms of audio, the new Nissan Micra will have a Bose system and at least 6 speakers around the interior.
Above the display there are two openings for air supply, between them there is an emergency parking button, the same was in the previous generation of Nissan Mirca, but in different forms. The climate control panel is located under the display. Just below the charging from USB and 12V, as well as a line-in for connecting a smartphone. Here, the designers have set aside a place for a smartphone. In the previous model, there were two cupholders here.
Nearby is the gear lever and the engine start / stop button, which speaks of modern remote technology. To the left and right of the lever, the panel is trimmed with the same leather as the center section of the console. A little further, we placed a cup holder and a mechanical handbrake.
The instrument panel has also changed in terms of the location of the instruments. On the left is a tachometer with a temperature sensor, and on the right is a speedometer with a fuel level sensor, the central part is occupied by a 5 ″ elongated color display, which displays information about the new Nissan Micra, engine temperature, distance traveled and other information about the condition of the car.
In the previous generation Nissan Micra, the arrangement of the instruments was not at all the same, in the center was the speedometer, with a 3.5 ″ monochrome screen in the center of the speedometer, for displaying information. The backlight was not as bright as in the updated model, and the indicators were poorly visible.
The steering wheel changed only the central part of the round shapes, to rectangular and even ones. On the side spokes, there are buttons for controlling mobile communications and multimedia functions. In the center of the steering wheel there is an airbag and a Nissan logo.
To the left of the steering wheel are buttons for heated rear window, heated side mirrors and front seats. Depending on the configuration, the number of functions may vary.Probably what hasn't changed are the side air vents located on the left and right of the center panel. They are the same shape, with chrome edging around.
The door panel of the Nissan Micra, like other parts, has changed its shape. The handle is not round now, but long. The trimmed insert has also become elongated, and not round as before. The front seats are made in a sporty style, with side streamlined sides. The rear seats are small and rather small passengers will fit there.
With regard to the interior trim of the new Nissan Micra hatchback, the manufacturer offers:

In addition to gasoline engines, a 1.5 liter diesel engine will also be available, the power of such a unit is 90 hp, the maximum torque of 4000 rpm. The new Nissan Micra will be fitted with a five-speed manual transmission as standard. For a diesel engine, it will also be possible to install a six-speed robotic gearbox.
The front suspension of the Nissan Micra is independent with McPherson struts, and the rear suspension is semi-independent with a torsion bar. The rest of the parameters are still silent, what will be the fuel consumption and how long it will take to accelerate to a hundred, we will find out after the official start of sales of the hatchback.
Security systems
The safety systems in the new Nissan Micra are still different in comparison with the previous generation, but relative to other purchased well-known manufacturers, the standard set, plus a little on top.
Airbags are installed as standard for the driver and front passenger, side curtain airbags are additionally installed for the first and second row of seats.
In the maximum configurations, you can find a navigation system, a circular view system. With active safety systems, it is worth noting the adaptive cruise control system, the vehicle stabilization system.
Rumor has it that a driver fatigue control system will be installed in order to control and stop the car at the right time and avoid an accident. There will also be a traffic sign recognition system. The complete list of systems will be known only after the start of sales.
Complete set and price of a small car
It is reliably known that the serial production of the fifth generation Nissan Micra 2017 will be established in France at the Renault plant in Flin. The first sales in the countries of the Old World will start in March 2017. Likewise, the exact cost for each of the configurations will be announced after the start.
The variety of configurations has not yet been disclosed, but the main things include a multimedia system, navigation, connection of any smartphone with an on-board system. Any buyer will be offered the opportunity to personalize the car. According to preliminary data, the starting price of the new Nissan Micra will be from $ 15,500.
