The Monterey Car Week in California this August marks the debut of the Audi PB18 e-tron Concept. As the manufacturer notes, the car was built in close cooperation with the specialists of the special division "Audi Sport" and, in fact, is a reimagined version of the LMP1 racing prototype.

The novelty received a futuristic exterior and interior, a high-performance electric motor, and impressive transformation possibilities - depending on the wishes and goals of the driver, the salon can be single or double. But first things first.

Exterior of the Audi PB18 e-tron Concept

As noted earlier, the concept Audi PB18 sports a futuristic look that instantly catches the eye. It is noteworthy that in addition to the solutions of the conceptual LMP1, the car has incorporated a number of design elements of another concept - the Aicon business shuttle.

"Muzzle" sports car It is represented by a narrow head optics of a matrix type, a huge mouth of the air intake, with the inscription "E-tron" at the base and a mass of aerodynamic elements.

"Space" profile received a sloping roofline, a heavily littered windshield, a small glass area of the side doors, as well as massive air intakes and huge alloy wheels of the original design, shod in low-profile racing tires.

Concept feed PB18 e-tron in terms of originality, it does not lag one step behind its frontal part, delighting the eye with a narrow LED strip of side lights, an original spoiler, as well as a monumental rear bumper with a stylish aerodynamic diffuser.

The outer dimensions of the concept novelty are:

Length, mm4530
Width, mm2000
Height, mm1150
Wheelbase, mm2700

Unfortunately, the manufacturer decided not to disclose information about the concept's ground clearance, but it is unlikely that it exceeds the 120 mm mark.

Interior of the conceptual PB18

The interior of the concept Audi is designed in such a way that the driver's seat, pedal assembly, steering wheel and dashboard form a single monocoque that can move in the longitudinal direction. So, when using the car on the track, it is located in the middle, and during everyday use, it shifts to the left, freeing up space for one more passenger.

Driver's seat represented by the original multi-steering wheel with touch buttons, as well as a huge display of the dashboard, on which any information of interest to the driver can be displayed. Moreover, behind the dashboard there is another, but already transparent OLED display, on which you can also see all sorts of data.

It is noteworthy that the car does not have any kind of mechanical connection between the controls and the power plant - this means that all commands of the "pilot" are transmitted exclusively through electronics.

Manufacturers proudly declare that the car is suitable not only for driving on the race track, but also on public roads, while the manufacturer decided not to disclose such a parameter as the volume of the trunk, which, in our opinion, is very important for an everyday car.

Specifications Audi PB18 e-tron Concept 2018

The propulsion of the Audi PB18 e-tron Concept is provided by a state-of-the-art propulsion system, which in its configuration has much in common with the engine of the business shuttle "Aicon". It is represented by three electric motors at once, one of which is located in the front of the body, and the two remaining in the rear.

The total output of the electric motors is 680 hp. (830 Nm of torque), while the driver has a short-term opportunity to increase the power to 775 "horses", which makes it possible to accelerate from 0 to 100 in a little more than 2 seconds. Given that the e-tron Concept is a full-fledged electric car, talking about such a concept as fuel consumption is simply inappropriate.

The power plant is powered by several solid fuel batteries with a liquid cooling system, the total power of which reaches 95 kWh. According to preliminary information, this is enough to cover 500 km on a single charge (according to the WLTP cycle), while using 800-volt charging, the batteries can be fully charged in just 15 minutes.

In addition, the car has support for AWC wireless charging.

The concept car boasts a fully independent suspension with double wishbones, with a push-rod at the front and a pull-rod at the rear. Magnetorheological shock absorbers located in a circle complete the picture. The Audi PB18 e-tron is braked by advanced carbon ceramic brakes.

Safety of the new Audi PB18 e-tron Concept

With the PB18 e-tron concept, Audi decided to leave the controls entirely to the driver, so it lacks any of the sophisticated self-driving systems that the company has been working so hard on in recent years. In addition, there is no information on what safety systems and driver assistance technologies are on board the concept.

2018 Audi PB18 e-tron concept pricing and configurations

Currently, there is no data on whether the Audi PB18 e-tron Concept will receive a serial continuation, just as there is no information on its estimated cost. It is also worth recalling that this fall, the Audi carmaker will present the first mass-produced electric car of the brand, which will be the Audi e-tron crossover.

Conclusion

The Audi PB18 e-tron Concept is a striking and extremely high-tech concept that clearly demonstrates exactly what a car can become in the near future.
